Asian Development bank says In 2024, international tourism in Asia rebounded strongly, but it only reached 88% of pre-pandemic levels

How to Enlarge the Manufacturing Company

In 2024, international tourists started visiting Asian countries again, but compared to tourist visits before the pandemic, it indicates it will reach only 88%. It’s still 12 percentage points lower than before the pandemic for tourists visiting Asian countries in 2024. This report was reported by Sanchita Basu Das, a development economist at the Asian Development Bank (ADB). They say to policymakers to focus on the investment related to the transport infrastructure development, improve the visa policies, and boost the regional cooperation. It's the way to increase tourist visits, at least to cover the tourists before the pandemic level. The first strategy they suggest is that a 1% increase in air transport investment is associated with a 0.98% rise in international tourism and a 1.1% increase in intra-Asian tourism flows. Second, they give importance to liberalizing the visa policy, like reducing the visa process and expanding the visa-free and visa-on-arrival access, to boost both inbound and regional travel. And third, the suggestion to the policymaker is to enhance the regional cooperation to facilitate smoother travel and encourage the multi-country itineraries. This includes harmonized travel protocols and indicates the transport networks as cross-border. These are the strategy and policy directions from the economist Sanchita Basu Das for improving the tourism sector in Asian countries. And this strategy and policy suggestion not only support the Asian economic recovery but also pave the way for diversifying sources of markets to strengthen the resilience of the region's tourism sector.
